Iran's President-elect Vows Support for Resistance Forces in West Asia

Iran's President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian has pledged unwavering support for resistance forces in West Asia, emphasizing that backing the Axis of Resistance is a fundamental policy of the Islamic Republic.

In a message to Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Nasrallah's congratulatory message following his victory in Iran’s runoff presidential election on July 5.

Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran's historical support for regional resistance against the "illegitimate Zionist entity," highlighting that this stance aligns with the core principles of the Islamic Republic, as established by its late founder, Imam Khomeini, and upheld by Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Hezbollah has assured Pezeshkian of its continued commitment to the path of resistance, vowing to remain steadfast until "final victory." Additionally, Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement, congratulated Pezeshkian on his electoral success and praised the smooth conduct of the vote.

Pezeshkian won the election with over 16 million votes, defeating former nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, who garnered more than 13 million votes. The runoff followed a June 28 snap election prompted by the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raeisi and others in a helicopter crash on May 19.

In his first message after the victory, Pezeshkian thanked Iranians for their participation, noting the turnout in the runoff election was around 50 percent.
